The original course was designed by Leanne Thomas in March 2019 on behalf of the North Tier Partnership.  The course is owned by and copyrighted to the North TIER Partnership.

Description

This six-week workshop will familiarize participants with technology to support strategies for helping English Language Learners (ELLs) towards becoming proficient in English.  Participants will learn about language acquisition and the stages people go through as they learn a second language.  Next, they will take a look at strategies and resources to address the four foundational skills of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  The last session allows the participants to become familiar with the WIDA Access test that measures English Language proficiency in each of the four foundational areas.  The concepts learned throughout this course can be applied to any grade K-12 and any content area.   Participants will select an ELL to work with throughout the course as they try the various strategies that are discussed.  They will turn in a case study summarizing the work at the end of the course.
